It seems there are two main patterns of use of DevonThink plus Yojimbo/EagleFiler: Ive seen lots of comments that folks use EagleFiler to archive their email. However, I’m not sure that EagleFiler is really a competitor to DevonThink. I like EagleFiler (and love SpamSieve by the same author), too, though I have also had a few stability problems with early versions. However I will have to be careful about moving indexed files in DTP I’m not sure what that would do back in their actual homes.I’m testing both and would be interested to hear from the folks on this forum if you would stick with DevonThink over EagleFiler, and why. 1 I’m in the process of switching from DevonThink Pro to EagleFiler. I've used DEVONthink for years because it is so mature and powerful. It also works with OpenMeta tags and databases of DEVONtechnologies excellent product DEVONthink Pro. Editing the file using DTP actually edits them in their original (EF) directory, so the changes show up in both programs. Something I’m struggling with recently is which bucket app to use, whether it’s worth it to use multiple bucket apps for separate areas of my life and whether I want a super-powered full-featured app (i.e. MacOS Mavericks officially brought tags to the Mac. (I have to run Scan For New Files to see the renamed files.) This appears to work just fine. The old file in EF gets a file size of 0 bytes. The result is to create an apparent new file back in EagleFiler, with the new name. (At least, not that I can figure out.) So I tried manually changing the file names in DTP. The next step is that DTP shows file names, and does not show Titles. I have a 10,000 item library of EF documents, and I wanted to Index some folders from EF in Devonthink Pro. I tested something that I know is risky, and it seems to work fine.
